Dugie Gemmill

Veterinary Surgeon

Having qualified in Scotland where he is from originally, Dugie has worked at the practice for over 30 years, and is well-known within the community for having once been branch partner of Parkside Vets. Most will remember the articles that he used to write for Wirral Life Magazine! Dugie specialises in laparoscopy and orthopaedic surgeries, and comes back to the practice monthly from his home in France, to keep the staff on their toes. In his spare time, Dugie enjoys making the most of the warmer weather in the South of France by taking his dog Ghill (as seen in the photo) for walks, blacksmithing and art.

I'm Lou one of the CCA's, I've worked at the practice since September 2019. Prior to working here, I had never worked in a veterinary practice before, but I can honestly say I've never enjoyed a job more, and I'm lucky to work alongside a great team of people. As a direct result of working here I am now a cat mum to Petal and her son Charles. Outside of work you will normally find me in the gym, or spending time with my family.

I have lived in and around New Ferry for forty-four years. It is so lovely seeing familiar faces and new come into the practice. Being a CCA is the best role as I enjoy helping clients, but most of all I love the cuddles from all the gorgeous pets. I enjoy spending my free time with my husband, twin daughters and teenage daughter, and my gorgeous Cavatzu Minnie.

In my opinion Medivet New Ferry is an outstanding practice. A whole team of amazing and thoroughly dedicated people are at hand to help and I have every confidence in the care that is provided here. My dog Sam has been visiting this Veterinary Surgery since he was a tiny puppy and now that he has reached his senior years he is in need of additional care. He gets the very best ! In December last year I called in at the surgery to collect some medication and Lou who was on Reception noticed that I was worried about Sam and arranged for him to be seen there and then. I almost lost Sam to Addison's Disease something that Mr Gemmill swiftly detected and in so doing he saved Sam's life. Maria Wise provides excellent care and treatment for Sam's condition on a regular basis and is always willing to go that extra mile to help. I am so grateful to them both. Nothing is too much trouble for any of the lovely people who work at Medivet. Sam enjoys his visits to the vets. He loves the 'girls' on Reception and all of the wonderful nurses and vets. Thank you.

Really friendly staff who obviously all have a big passion for animal care. We're always made to feel welcome, get an appointment easily at convenient times and have so far been very happy with all the treatment our cat has had from them.

The vet we saw Mr D Gemmill at New Ferry practice was fantastic. He was aware of the unique qualities of our dogs breed and was able to offer tailored advice that fits such a high drive dog with insanely high pain tolerance. He explained medication options clearly and possible side effects and how they would suit our pets situation better or worse but ultimately let us decide. He had a high emphasis on our pets quality of life and compared it to human experiences so we could relate to our pets condition. The vet was also very cautious of my allergies and recommended treatment for my pet that wouldn't put me at risk. The girls on reception were polite and friendly and were keen to help keep my pet comfortable while we waited. 10/10, would highly recommend
